'It is not enough for me to know what I have in me - everyone must know it (…) everyone must know me, so that my life may not be lived for myself alone while others live so apart from it, but so that it may be reflected in them all, and they and I may live in harmony.'

palate: the roof of your mouth; also a metaphor for one's taste in food (even though that's your tongue's job) or other matters
palette: an artist's tool for mixing paint; by extension, a range of colours or other artistic options
pallet: a wooden platform used when things are transported by a forklift
And while I'm at it:
cache: a stored quantity of things; a stash (with which it rhymes)
cachet: appeal, allure, aura of desirability; pronounced 'cash-ay'
caché: hidden; a word you can use in French

putting waves in your gun |
] |
I occasionally get misdirected e-mails, but they don't usually remind me of stuff designed to evade spam filters crossed with jargon from Office Space:
I brought my Doctors note in and decided to check emails, therefore I am responding to your notes:
This is exactly what I asked you to do night before last but you failed to do so. See your note: Additional kits were committed after the original kits for second were assigned. I was able to add most of the priority orders however some will carryover into first shift. H, I put a copy of the email listing the wave #’s – these probably should go into Ms. J’s gun first.
The waves for priorities the previous night were only priorities, however the first shift did not commit the next day using the same process, therefore I brought the subject up. The ones that went into the gun the previous night were immediately entered into the guns for first fill after we discussed it (immediate status). I just wanted to make everyone aware of the issue and incase any were carried over to first shift they would be prepared to handle it. I cannot prioritize anything once I am gone therefore it is out of my control once I leave the office. H supports first shift and I second that is when I realized that the priorities were combined with non-priorities the day after I gave Ed the priorities we discussed.
We are receiving about 100 full returns per day. From my original conversations with you this is easily accomplished in 3 – 4 hours per day. I don’t understand the need for assistance if this is your only task
Last week we averaged closer to 160 per day and one day at 200 I believe this was Friday. The time for processing returns has increased due to heavy damaged orders and the packing slips don’t list items by item # or item # order anymore, making it more time consuming for locating item and entering damaged entry. I will do a current time frame to inform you of a more actual time for returns entry.
This is not my only task. I have been constantly backing up regular tasks all day long, especially last week to give H time to ramp-up with receivers. That process was taking most of her day, and leaving me to handle problem orders and all other issues as well as assisting with the receivers. If you recall I mentioned this when we spoke in our meeting about the time issues with the receivers and new receiving process. Much has changed recently and changes are still being made making daily processes more time consuming until the kinks get worked out.
The returns are behind this week because I was out last Monday and H out Friday. They got behind last week from my time being taken up with helping H, and covering all other tasks. I have asked for help several times and sent D an email regarding my concerns. This week I spent 3 hours waiting to be drug tested on Tuesday, Wed 2 hours were taken up in meetings.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
I notice tonight while tasking the priority kit waves that there were few priorities within the waves, yet they appear to be all priorities as the waves were highlighted in red on the wave screen. When committing the kit waves I suggest we commit all the priority only orders on there each individual waves by kit # so we can truly get the priority orders out first going forward. Please guys let me know your thoughts.
Quite a few returns were completed today as I worked diligently to complete the back log. We are still lagging and any help going forward would be greatly appreciated. We are receiving about 100 full returns per day. From my original conversations with you this is easily accomplished in 3 – 4 hours per day. I don’t understand the need for assistance if this is your only task.
The billing in synapse is still showing no partials are being completed on someday and few on other. Last time I addressed this I was told the partials were being captured as full returns, in looking closer at this it does not appear to me that we are getting credit for processing the partial returns. I will do my best to research this, D and/or G may we meet regarding this issue? I will also ask J if she knows anything that might cause this.
We have an order in released since 2-11, the order date is 02-07. This order was sent out as a re-pick and sent to the customer today T G called me and showed me how to look up aging, pending and NS hold orders on the NS website. She specifically asked about this order pending since 02-07 I explained to her it is shipped and the UPS tracking # is notated in the customer notes screen of the order. I told her what happened and she suggested two ways to resolve the problem contact the help desk and let them process it to ship or re-release the order to the line and let them pick it, once picked not packed return items to stock. This would force the order into picked status then simply ship confirm manually as we do the postal orders. Do we have a written process for this so that we don’t have to continually be reminded how to do this? We should document the process and incorporate it in our daily tasks. We should try never to default to a process that results in additional labor without revenue to justify it. Let the help desk fix it.
I will be coming in late as most of you will be happy to know – I am going to the doctors.
See you in the AM – L

I just nearly lost my iPod in a really dumb way.
I was on the subway and belatedly realized that we were at my stop and the doors were about to close. So I leapt up, jumped out onto the platform and at the same time, my iPod decided to let go of its belt clip.
There I was on the platform, earbuds in, while the iPod lay on the floor of the subway car, whose doors were now closed. The woman who had been sitting across from me was on the other side of the door held up the iPod and just as I was pointing down the platform (not even sure if that was the direction of the train anymore) and saying 'NEXT STATION', the doors opened and she returned it to me!
Thank you, and I apologize for thinking bad thoughts about your sunglasses while we were on the train. Thank you also to the guard who noticed what had happened and opened the doors.
Self, pay more attention.

My actual job didn't make the top 10, although it is in the top 20. I must have skewed the results by suggesting I was more responsible (air traffic controller, truck driver, power plant operator) than I actually am, or had better people skills (PR specialist, DJ, lobbyist, activist) than I do.
Trust me, you don't want me directing your air traffic.

Yesterday I think I ate Filipino food, or at least the food-court version of it.
I say 'think' because there was nothing about the place I bought it from or the way the food was named that overtly identified it and I didn't think it was necessary or useful to ask the cashier exactly what kind of food it was, so Filipino is my educated guess.
I kind of liked the unforced identity but it did leave me with two questions:
1. Did the owners consciously decide to downplay/obscure the identity of the food (the cuisine that dare not speak its name?) and if so, why? 2. Is it really that important to me to define something if it seems somehow ambiguous?
